Iran says agreement with Oman would not mean the reopening of Hormuz Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned on Sunday that Iran's anticipated agreement with Oman to govern the Strait of Hormuz will not trigger a reopening of the waterway. In comments to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, Araghchi said Iran will provide details of the agreement and the new route maps to countries participating in a meeting with Gulf states in the Omani capital tomorrow, adding that the agreement does not “in any way” signal that the strait will reopen, which is conditional on the US honouring its commitments under the Memorandum of Understanding signed in Islamabad, he said. “Iran believes that the responsibility for ensuring security and stability in the region lies solely with the countries of the region,” Araghchi added.
