Netanyahu: Israel will begin negotiations with Lebanon to demilitarise Beirut Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israel has begun direct negotiations with Lebanon which will focus on disarming Hezbollah and establish peace with Lebanon, according to a statement posted to X. “In light of Lebanon’s repeated calls to open direct negotiations with Israel, I instructed the Cabinet yesterday to begin direct negotiations with Lebanon as soon as possible,” the statement said. “The negotiations will focus on disarming Hezbollah and establishing peaceful relations between Israel and Lebanon.” “Israel appreciates today’s call by the Lebanese Prime Minister to demilitarise Beirut,” the Israeli prime minister added. This comes after the heaviest Israeli bombardment of Lebanon on Wednesday since the start of Israel’s latest onslaught on the region, which killed over 250 people in one day.
