When asked by reporters about the decision, Trump said "We're going to cut way done, and we're cutting a lot further than 5,000". Trump said on Wednesday that he was considering withdrawing troops out of European countries which he said were not doing enough to assist with the war on Iran. Several anonymous defence officials and a congressional aid told the US outlet Politico that the threat had come as a suprise to the Pentagon.
